Relevant experience.
EnCorps teachers start by observing and guest teaching in effective classrooms serving low income students.  Prior to becoming full time teachers, candidates have taught through programs such as Citizen Schools , College Track , and Aim High or have served as guest teachers in our partner schools.  Do you run a low income, public school whose students could benefit from math or science tutors?  Contact us to find out how EnCorps can help.

Relevant training.
EnCorps Summer Boot Camp.  These intensive days of training and transition kick off the first year of support for EnCorps educators.  In conjunction with the New Teacher Center in Santa Cruz, we prepare tutors, guest teachers and full time teachers by building on each Educator's classroom and professional experience.

Tutor and guest teacher support services include Winter Institute, peer support, and coaching from EnCorps regional Program Directors.

First year teacher support services include Winter Institute, peer review and support (online and in person) and EnCorps staff.

Of the many qualities EnCorps teachers bring to the classroom, these three stand out:

  • a core commitment to serve a multi-year “encore career” as a teacher;
  • a deep knowledge of their subject matter in math or science;
  • and the ability to inject real world relevance into their teaching.
